The condition of our modern lives—fluorescent-lit, cubicled, plastic-packaged, virtual, branded, rated, marketed, mapped, and under surveillance—leaves the heart and soul starved and exhausted. It is no wonder that popular culture turns toward fantasy, mythic tales, and magic in an attempt to keep alive what our current age destroys. Perhaps so much time has passed under the influence of this trend that we have all but forgotten that once the light of curiosity shone in our eyes, that once we loved being alive, and that our human heart contains natural wonder, beauty, and imagination.

Meditation both relies on the use of imagination and revives the capacity for imagination that we may have lost. “Through imagination,” meditation teaches, “one becomes curious and kind, truly delighting in the beauty and mystery of our precious lives.”
