Because meditation emphasizes sitting still and calming the mind, we may think that being active and actively thinking are to be avoided. This is not the case; rather, meditative wisdom teaches that both the mind, with its many thoughts and emotions, and the body, with its many biological processes, function at their best when they are allowed to time to rest. However, many of the ways we try to relax often involve much distraction, over-stimulation, and numbing of the senses.
Meditation, in contrast, nurtures deep stillness of body and calmness of mind. These states allow the whole being a much needed rejuvenating rest, where the senses can be refreshed, the emotions can find balance, and the body can be restored.
In this morning of meditation, conversation, and ceremony, immerse yourself in the soothing experience of extended stillness. Time will be devoted to sitting meditation, walking meditation, and guided visualization.
