A gentle rain begins to fall on an overcast June day. Its drops bead on the leaves and flower petals, sinking into the dry earth, making moist the dusty soil.

The heart, like the soil of the earth, can become dry and barren. At times, our thoughts and emotions lose their fresh, growing vitality. Life no longer seems to touch our hearts. Neither can we connect deeply with others. It is painful to live in such an emotional desert.

Love and compassion are a sweet and welcome rainfall. They can slip through even the most hardened heart-soil. When this ambrosial water reaches the seeds sleeping deep in the earth, its wetness moistens those seeds, bringing them back to life. The heart flowers of love and compassion bloom.
