If we listen to our own voice, perhaps to what it asks for in a quiet moment alone, we will hear what is most dear to our hearts. If we know no one is listening, we may be able to speak beautiful, innocent, tearful words, words without artifice or pretense that describe the very core of our longing. We will know these words are true because of the emotions that accompany them: shyness, shock, relief.
Meditation is a way of living that brings us closer and closer to these secret truths. The more we can quietly whisper them to ourselves, the more likely we can speak them out loud to the listening air. Then more clearly and boldly can we speak them in the presence of others. By that, more bold and beautiful do our lives become. This bold beauty is the sweetest spot, the heart of meditation.
